Lake fishing is about as good as it has been lately. Amador is offering good quality bass fishing with one to three pound fish in most cases. You can still find trout as well, around twenty feet below the water's surface. In the Camanche you are going to find catfish above all else, especially along the north shore and south shore's access areas in the morning. The bass bite is relatively fair, as is the bite for trout especially near the dam and the cold water area near Lake Pardee. Pardee is definitely offering good trout fishing, plenty of Kokanee and some large mouth bass as well. A 14-lb large mouth bass seems to have been caught last week in this area.

Quarry Lakes is offering trout fishing, but it has been relatively slow. The best options here are power bait fishing from the beach or trolling, either way. The San Pablo Reservoir is keeping the trout bite going and yellow power eggs have been a productive bait. Choose the main recreation area or the tower for the best results. Catfish plants are beginning this week along the Shadow cliffs, and trout fishing is also good here. Contra Loma is offering catfish plants on a weekly basis. The fishing docks are not open now, but the shore access has been great.

Trout are appearing about 10 feet shallower than usual at Rose Island, and the bass bite continues to be good here. The kokanee bite is solid throughout the day at New Melones. The best days are the windier ones. You can generally troll along Rose Island, the main lake in the dam area and the spillway for the best results, and 50 to 60 feet depths seem to produce the best results. Los Vacqueros is another good fishing spot for trout, but the wind is keeping many of the boats off the water right now. If you're shore fishing or angling though, you'll find good trout along the rock wall.

Chabot is experiencing catfish plants beginning this week. You will also find a nice selection of smaller sized rainbow trout, especially near to the marina. Clear is offering bass fishing, especially along the lake's north end, with a good top water bite in the morning. You should throw drop shot rigs, senkos and flukes for the best results, which right now are two and three pound bass with some as large as six pounds. Trout fishing is good in the Del Valle area, and limits are not uncommon here. Top spots include Heron Bay and the dam for sure. The catch of the week here happened to be a nine pounder. The catfish prospects are also good, especially near the Marina's south end.

River fishing is also good, especially when it comes to shad and trout. Shad fishing is remaining good in the American despite the fact that water flows have dropped somewhat. The best hours of the day to fish for shad here are the last four hours of sunlight, especially near Gristmill and the Sunrise area. The Klamath area just experienced a salmon fly hatch along the upper river which has created some truly excellent trout fishing. There is a solid evening shad bite in the Russian, especially along Hacienda's Bridge, Johnson's Beach, Vacation Beach and Monte Rio. Finally along the lower Sacramento you will find good fishing for trout, especially in the area near Redding. Between Hamilton and Red Bluff the shad fishing is particularly good as well.

The Rio Vista winds have made angling somewhat difficult in this delta, and a lot of the catch has simply been striped bass on the smaller end. Some of them are as long as 22 inches in length however. You will also find plenty of catfish along the river as well as in the sloughs. Frank's tract is offering good bite in the earlier part of the morning, especially with frogs and top water bait. You may also want to try drop shotting. The bass are between one and two lbs each, and you may also find Schoolie stripers in the area.

If you are looking for saltwater fishing on the other hand, the Happy Hooker has been heading outside of the Golden Gate looking for stripers in Pacifica and easily obtaining limits. On Saturday, on Sunday and on Monday as well this boat managed to bring back as many as 120 bass and many weighed in the teens. Rock cod fish trips have also been resulting in limits, which you may want to check out.

Fishing in Pacifica along the county coastline for San Mateo has been particularly productive with Stripers showing up along most of the beaches. Perch, crabs, Jack smelt and a halibut were all landed recently from the pier. From Pillar Point you will find easily achieved limits of cod, especially with local trips to Martin's Beach and Pacifica. The prize of the week here was a 25 pounder Ling cod. Quality has been good all over in general, however.

Along the San Francisco Bay you are going to find an outstanding striper bite, especially at Southampton. Halibut are definitely biting as well, but they are spread all around the bay. In the South end of the bay you will find plenty of stripers and halibut, especially at Hunters Point and the A-Crane. You will also find plenty of skiffs being attracted to Alameda as well as Berkeley.

Finally, you will find live bait drifting resulting in limits as well as near limits of halibut in the San Pablo Bay. There are a lot of halibut here that are falling in the 10 lb to 20 lb range, and some are even reaching into the 30 lb range. In the Suisun Bay, the Martinez Pier is proving to be a good spot for Sturgeon fishing by shore anglers. Last week four were landed. Ozol and Glomar are also good Sturgeon spots this week.
