Lake fishing has been good for bass, catfish and some trout

Anderson: Using spinnerbaits and crankbaits will get you some great catches here. While bass is the best catch in this lake, you will still get a few occasional surprise trout on your line. Jigging is the best method to use along the mud lines. You might also want to try fishing at a medium depth to get some good bites.

Berryessa: While fishing remains slow in this area, you can still expect some good catches. Kokanees have been the best catches for those looking to catch them. The best way to get the bite you are looking for is to set a depth of 47-60 feet. Of course, you will also be able to find some great bass bite as long as you are willing to look in the weeds. Go deep using plastics so that you will be able to get good bites.

Calero: Bass is still been outperformed by crappie in this lake. You will be able to get the best catches of crappie if you are looking close to the launch ramp. Bass have been going for spinnerbaits as well as plastics which have been drop-shotted. You might also want to try some topwater lures.

Chabot: Bass has continued to improve, but is still not as good as the catfish bite has been in the past two weeks. Those looking for catfish can expect at least 2-3 catches per outing. Look near Raccoon Point, the docks and Honker Bay to get the best catches.

Chesbro: Night fishing is the best bet if you are looking to catch catfish. Using live minnows will get the best results and the largest fish. Crappie has also been a decent bite for those looking to catch them.

Coyote: Look in the South End to find the best catches of bass. Use swimbaits so that you will be able to get the best bites. You will also be able to pull in a few crappie and bluegills.

Del Valle: The East Beach shoreline has been a great place to pull in some great smallmouth and largemouth catches. Look at Swallow Bay and the Narrows if you are looking to get some off and on catches of stripers. Trout fishing is starting to improve.

Loch Lomond: Bluegill sizes have been improving in this lake over last week. Expect to be able to pull in a few catches per outing.

Mcalpine: Recent trout plant last week has improved trout fishing. You can still expect to pull in some decent bluegill, bass and catfish.

Quarry Lakes: Trout fishing has really improved after the 750 pound plant that went in two weeks ago. Look along the shoreline to get the best catches using live bait. Catfish catches remain plentiful when looking near Fisherman’s Row.

San Pablo Reservoir: Graveyard Cove, Scow Canyon and Sandy Point remain great places where you will be able to find some great catfish catches. Those looking to get the best results can try a few different kinds of baits. Look to use night crawlers as well as chicken liver with a garlic scent.

Uvas: Cutbaits at night have been working to pull in up to 5 pound cats at night.

Delta fishing has been making many anglers happy with great sturgeon and salmon catches

Benicia: Bloodworms remain a great bait to pull in some stripers. Salmon bite has been steadily improving since the season opened. Those looking to catch sturgeon have been seeing the most luck when looking during the top of the tide or during outgoing tide at the Carquinez Straits. Ozol has still be producing some great bites.

Rio Vista: Catfish is plentiful for those looking in Prospect Slough, Cache Slough or Lindsay Slough. Striper sizes have been improving, but remain on the small side. Those looking to get some bites on black bass can find what they are looking for using Senkos in Seven Mile Slough.

Saltwater fishing has been good this week with salmon catches improving

Berkeley: The Flying Fish has been pulling in better numbers of cod this last week while the New Easy Rider has been reporting great catches of salmon for anglers looking to get out on the open water. The Happy Hooker has also been reporting great catches of striper and halibut from Central Bay.

Bodega Bay: With numbers fluctuating, trolling has still been the best catch when set at 40 feet.

Capitola: Bait has settled in at Santa Cruz for the moment after their shift last week from Capitola. Those looking for halibut need to set a depth of 40 feet. Both halibut and rock cod have been plentiful whenever looking between Mile Reef and Soquel Point.

Emeryville: The best catches remain salmon and halibut. The best action for both has been in the Central Bay. You can also expect to find great striper when going out on one of the pot luck trips which leave throughout the weekend. Look off of Marin Coast when looking to get Salmon catches up to 30 pounds.

Monterey: The best catches for those looking to get rock cod have been coming in from boats just off of the beaches from Fort Ord. You can also expect to get some good catches of salmon of around 10 pounds.

Pacifica: Waters have calmed this week to allow perch and striper catches to improve. You can still expect to pull in some good catches of mackerel with sizes of 12 inches being the lower end of what you can expect.

Pillar Point: Rock fishing trips have been pulling in some good catches of rock cod when looking south of the buoys all the way to San Gregorio.

Santa Cruz: Salmon fishing has remained decent for those on salmon trips with size improving. Still expect to find sacks of blacks, vermillion and blues when on rock cod fishing trips.

San Francisco: Look on the South Bay piers to find good bites of rays, sharks and jack smelt. If you are looking for halibut or bass, you will be able to find what you are looking for near Alcatraz in the Central Bay no the rock piles.

Lake fishing has been good for bass, catfish and some trout

Anderson: Good bass catches in this lake. Expect to find good bites in deep water using jigging. If looking in mud lines, go for a medium depth using spinnerbaits and crankbaits. Expect that you will catch the occasional trout on your line.

Berryessa: Fishing has slowed somewhat this week with bass and kokanee being the biggest slowdowns. If looking for bass, try some topwater lures. Look deep as well as in weed lines with plastics to get a good response of 1 to 3 pound catches. Expect to find limits of kokanees. Looking to get the best catches will require a depth of 47 to 60 feet.

Calero: Those looking for bass can use drop-shotted plastics as well as spinnerbaits. Minnows, red worms and small jigs work well to catch crappie close to the launch ramp. Expect better catche of crappie than you will find of bass.

Chabot: Those looking for catfish will be able to find some good bites here with the plant this last week. While limits are hard to come by, you can still get some great catches at Honker Bay, Raccoon Point and the docks. Expect to get around 2 to 3 catfish. Those looking for bass will find the bite is getting better.

Chesbro: Use live minnows for night fishing to catch some great catfish. You can also expect to find some decent crappie bites as well.

Coyote: Expect to find good bluegill and crappie catches. The best catch is bass which are being found mostly on the south end. Use swimbaits and jigs for the best bet.

Del Valle: Trout fishing has been poor. Striper bites have been spotty at best with the best catches coming out of the Narrows and Swallow Bay. Those looking for largemouth and smallmouth can find good bites near the East Beach shoreline.

Loch Lomond: While sizes are still small, you can expect to find some good bluegill catches here this week.

Mcalpine: Expect to find great bites on catfish, bluegill and bass. Trout fishing will improve shortly with a plant that goes in on Friday.

Quarry Lakes: With a 500 pound plant of catfish having gone in this last week, expect to find good catches at Fisherman’s Row. Those looking for trout will also be able to get good catches with a 750 pound plant going in this last week as well.

San Pablo Reservoir: Those looking for catfish will be able to find great catches with a 1,000 pound plant that went in on Tuesday. Best catches have been with regular and garlic-scented chicken livers as well as night crawlers. The best bites have come from Sandy Point, Graveyard Cove and Scow Canyon.

Uvas: Do some night fishing to catch catfish. Using cutbaits is your best bet to get bites up to 5 pounds.

Delta fishing has been making many anglers happy with great sturgeon and salmon catches

Benicia: Sturgeon is very active in Ozol. You can also look in the Carquinez Straits during the first part of the outgoing tide as well as at the top of the tide. Look along the shoreline if you want to get some great striper bites. Use bloodworms to get the best results. Salmon has also been biting with the first catches being reported last week.

Rio Vista: There are many stripers on the small side to be caught. Those looking for catfish can get some great bites when looking at Cache Slough, Lindsay Slough and Prospect Slough. You can also use Senkos at Seven Mile Slough to get some good action on black-bass.

Saltwater fishing has been good this week with salmon catches improving

Berkeley: Central Bay has been a hot spot for the Happy Hooker to get 1.5 halibut per rod as well striper limits. Cod has been caught at limits for the Flying Fish at the Farallons. Daily trips for the New Easy Rider have been turning up greater than a fish per rod for those looking for salmon.

Bodega Bay: Trolling has been returning action when set at 40 feet. The biggest catch was reported last week with a catch of 40 pounds.

Capitola: Soquel Point to Mile Reef has been a great spot for those looking for halibut and rock cod. Halibut have been found in 40 to feet of water. Those looking for bait will need to look between Capitola and Santa Cruz as they are on the move.

Emeryville: Salmon catches have been good for boats trolling off of the Marin Coast with catches going up to 30 pounds. Halibut has been a good bite with a fish per angler. Also expect to find striper catches up to 17 pounds when going on live bait potluck trips. Best action has been seen in Central Bay.

Monterey: Rock cod has been coming in at limits recently, but the biggest catches have been with salmon. With catches averaging 10 pounds, boats looking just off the beaches near Fort Ord have been able to catch big numbers.

Pacifica: Striper and perch bite has slowed considerably due to the rough water recently. Mackerel has been a better catch with most running above 12 inches in length. Buckets with more than 40 fish were being pulled in at the pier by those fishing early in the week.

Pillar Point: Look south of the buoys through San Gregorio when looking to catch limits on rock fishing trips.

Santa Cruz: Do not expect to find any halibut when on rock cod trips. You can expect to find sacks of blues, blacks and vermillion. Saturday’s salmon trip last week got five salmon between 8 and 25 pounds for the five anglers on board.

San Francisco: Look on the South Bay piers to find good bites of rays, sharks and jack smelt. If you are looking for halibut or bass, you will be able to find what you are looking for near Alcatraz in the Central Bay no the rock piles.

Anderson: Bass is the main catch here with 1 – 2 pounds being the average. While all manner of fishing will work, you can get the best catches in the morning with crankbaits and spinnerbaits. Later day fishing will get better results with Senkos. You can also expect some good crappie catches

Berryessa: Those looking for bass will find what they are looking for in the northern part of the lake in the early morning. Expect topwater catches in the early morning and bank fishing to 30 feet during the rest of the day. Spoons are a good lure to catch bass.

Calero: Use Texas-rigged spinnerbaits or Senkos to find bass hiding under the cover of the weeds. Morning anglers can also try using frogs to get good results.

Chabot: Catfish are still the best catch with Alder Point, island and Raccoon Point being the best spots. The last two weeks have not produced any great catches as of yet with only a few small trout and catfish coming out of the lake.

Chesbro: Use white and red jigs to get good action on crappies weighing over a pound. The best fishing has been crappie as well as bluegills.

Coyote: The morning anglers are the only ones getting any decent catches. Those who have been looking to catch their limits have been met with adversity from hard to find catches.

Del Valle: Plants of trout and catfish near the dam has kept the lake very active. Best spots for great striped bass catches – from 7 to 10 pounds - includes the narrows, Swallow Bay and the dam. You can also look in Hetch Hetchy and near dam to find smallmouth bass.

Lexington: Those looking to catch bass can use weightless Senkos and Texas-rigged plastics. Those fishing in the shallows have been able to pull in a lot of 3 to 5 pounders.

Loch Lomond: Look in the warmer shallow water for bluegill with the bass bite slowing down. Best location is around the west shore as the lake remains cool at a surface temperature of 74.

Mcalpine: Trout anglers have been pulling in many from 2 to 3 pounds. Those looking for catfish have been pulling in catches up to 15 pounds. Also expect to find good sturgeon catches.

Quarry Lakes: Those looking to catch trout will be disappointed, but may be able to find better luck next week with a trout plant going in. An already good catfish bite is also expected to improve with a plant going in this week. Look near Fisherman’s Row for best catfish bite.

San Luis Reservoir: Catfish anglers have been able to get great results – up to 25 pounds – when fishing at Dinosaur Point. Best bet is with cutbaits, but expect some striper nibbles as well. Stripers are drawn to rip baits and weightless flukes. Do not expect great results in forebay.

San Pablo Reservoir: Catfish catches are expected to improve dramatically with the first plant of 2,000 pounds having gone in on Wednesday. Still, the best catch has been trout with Pines or main rec being the best spots to find small – 1 to 2 pound – trout.

Uvas: Drop-shot plastics and Senkos are the best bet for largemouth. Expect to find few catches in the middle of the day with the best bite being in late evening. Topwater lures are also effective for early morning or evening catches.

Delta Fishing

Benicia: Even with no salmon being caught in the opening week, there are plenty of stripers to be found. Look between Benicia Bridge and Glen Cove on the shore to catch up to 10 pounders with schoolie-sizes being the most common. Best bet is to use blood or pile worms as well as mixed results with anchovies and bullheads. Buoy 4 is a good bet if you are on a boat and Ozol is a good bet for sturgeon.

Rio Vista: With only a few salmon catches occurring, like the one on opening day by Miner Slough, striped bass has been more the concentration. Troll near Broad Slough to find most.

Tracy: Expect to find a few stripers in the legal range at Grant Line Canal with catches improving.

Saltwater Fishing

Capitola: There was a 20 pound striper caught early in the week off New Brighton. Salmon has been moving in closer while baitfish is being found at the end of the marina. Expect calmer waters on Friday after a swell of halibut over the weekend. There was a 26 pound halibut caught by a kayaker.

Emeryville: The best catches since the weekend have been salmon with 6 to 12 pound averages and the occasional catch of over 20 being caught east of Farallons. Huck Finn pulled in limits on Monday and Tuesday. With others pulling in limits of stripers up to 17 pounds.

Monterey: Limits have been caught for both rock cod and salmon. Best spots for rock cod have been off the local reefs. Best spots for salmon have been off of Cannery Row with the best catches being between 8 and 10 pounds.

Pacifica: Even with fishing being good from the shore, you will have to fight the crowds to catch stripers. The longest being pulled in at 42 inches can be expected when going out at high tide. Early morning anglers – 4am to 6am – can expect good catches using anchovies as well as hair-raisers and metal.

Pillar Point: Look west of the harbor below Farallon Islands to find salmon. Many have been catching at least half-limits with some taking limits. Also expect to find a mix of cod, with black cod being the dominant when looking south of harbor.

Santa Cruz: With rock fishing getting good results and Vermilions coming in good sizes, you can also expect to get good results when looking for salmon at the south of the bay.

San Francisco: Those fishing from the shore have been able to find rays and sharks while those in Party Boats in Central Bay have been getting limits. South Bay has mixed results.

San Pablo Bay: Drift with live bait to find Stripers and Sturgeon. Look in Southhampton, Red Rock and paradise for stripers. Look at Pumphouse to find sturgeon.

Anderson: Expect to find the best catches slightly over two pounds. If you are looking for bass, set your depth for seven feet. Early morning anglers will get good results with crankbaits. Otherwise, look to use darter heads. Most are catching decent numbers.

Berryessa: Trollers looking to catch trout should set their depth to 25 feet. Those looking to catch kokanee can look near Big Island, Skiers Dam and Markley Cove. Use orange and pink to get the best catches and set your depth to between 50 and 60 feet.

Calero: Bass fishermen need to hit the water early before the joy boaters hit the water. If you get out early enough, you can get the top water bites. Otherwise, aim for the weeds using weedless rigs, frogs or Senkos.

Chabot: Bass fishing seems to be the catch of the week with Half Moon Bay, Bass Cove and Raccoon Point offering the best catches. Robo-worms, flukes and Senkos are the best bet to get a bite. Trout fishing has slowed as well as night catfish fishing. Even with fishing allowed until ten, the best you can hope for is one to two per person.

Chesbro: Take your children along with you to catch some of the bluegill which have been caught here recently. Look to go late in the afternoon to early in the evening.

Coyote: It seems that everywhere you look, you can find bass. Fishing for bass in post spawn mode is easy to do using plastics, or even in the right situations, topwater lures. Look in weeds, dams and coves.

Del Valle: Cut baits seem to be the best bet for catching striped bass and catfish. Look near the marina for catfish. Swallow Bay and near the dam are good places to find striped-bass.

Loch Lomond: Those looking for bass need to bring their A-game because the bites have been slow and tough. Look early in the morning or late in the evening for the best luck. An easier catch is bluegills. You can use pieces of nightcrawlers or red worms to get a bite from Deer Flat to the Reeds on the west side across from island.

Los Vaqueros: Look for better catches of catfish with a plant going in this week. Those looking to catch striped-bass can get great catches when looking to use anchovies. You can also get respectable catches form shad.

Mcalpine: Early morning and late evening anglers have been having an easy time of catching trout. The best bait to use has been White Powerbait and worms. Those looking to compete might be interests in the catfish derby being held on Saturday at 6pm. The contest ends at midnight with a grand prize of $300. Anglers of all ages are invited to try their luck.

Quarry Lakes: Catfish fishing is expect to improve even more with a first of the summer, 500 pound plant that went in on Tuesday. If you are looking to catch trout, look in the evening.

San Luis Reservoir: Cut baits remain a good way to catch both catfish and stripers, though catfish are still beating the stripers to the bite. Catfish is the better bet over stripers for a catch.

San Pablo Reservoir: Bass have been the catch of the week with the best action being found at Graveyard Cove in Scow Canyon. Those looking to catch catfish have had less luck. Trout fishing is doing all right with the best spot being Main Recreation or near dam. Try using bait fishing near the shore over trolling.

Uvas: While some catfish and crappie have been caught, the best bet has been largemouth. Stay on the move for best results and use chatterbaits, reaction baits or Senkos.

DELTA

Benicia: Salmon roe is the best bait to get great sturgeon catches. Ozol has been the spot to look for great catches like the ones recorded by Capt. Hayden who measured 46, 84, 85 and 95 inches for the sturgeon that was caught and released.

Rio Vista: Expect to have better luck with bass. Even with many not quite being legal size, there were a few pulled in which were 20s or greater. Striper catches have slowed down.

SALTWATER

Berkeley: Those looking for bass will have the best luck on coastal beaches, main bay, and in San Pablo Bay with the bass coming down from the delta. The Happy Hooker recorded catches of a fish per rod. Catches includes halibut and stripers being pulled in from the incoming tide below Alcatraz.

Capitola: Look near the surf to catch stripers. Look in the marina for bait. Those looking for halibut will find them on the move from the edge of kelp beds, Capitola Reef and Mile Reef. Rock Cod are also on the move from Soquel Point, Capitola Reef and Mile Reef.

Emeryville: Better fishing the week with half-limits of cod being found at islands with most being lings. Trips for rock cod have resumed with the weather getting better. Striped-bass has seen improvements with potluck boats. The Huck Finn met 16 limits by 8am. Largest catch was around 12 pounds.

Monterey: Rock cod has been producing continuous limits for anglers. 13 limits of salmon were caught in a trip from Chris’. Most boast have been catching salmon between 8 and 10 pounds with 10 to 12 limits being caught each day. Look to get great salmon catches off old Soldiers Club at Fort Ord.

Pacifica: Stripers have been very active in the past week with over 150 being pulled in the past ten days from beaches. Best spots include Mori Point between 4am and 7am. Good baits include yellow or green hair-raisers three quarter ounce with tails and FP minnows in green shiner.

Pillar Point: Boats have been getting good fishing when the weather permits, which it did not over the weekend. On Tuesday, the Tiger Fish brought in ten limits.

Santa Cruz: Those looking to catch salmon should look south off Pajaro River. Expect to find a lot of fish even though the majority are small with many being shakers. Those looking for half-day trips for bottom fishing off of reefs should go on Stagnaro’s which has recorded steady limits of reds, browns and even the occasional ling.

San Francisco: Set your depth to 18 – 25 feet when looking for halibut or stripers off Brisbane. With the best size coming in at 21 pounds, halibut sizes are good. Best bites have been coming from drifting live anchovies, frozen bait has produced bites as well.

Lake fishing was dominated by trout and catfish this week.

Anderson: Bass fishing is the best bite right now on the lake. The best spots to get the biggest fish are in the shallows. Last week a 9 pound bass was caught, but the majority of catches ranged from 1 – 2 pounds. Expect the best catches with dart-head worms and drop-shotted worms or even jigs. You might even be able to find some good crappie this week.

Berryessa: Expect to find bass, kokanee and kokes as long as you are looking in the right places. The coves are a great place that you will be able to find bass, but expect to find weeds and frogs. Bass are fully awake having snapped from spawn to midsummer mode. Topwater lures are a great way to catch some fish early. Depths for fish include 25 feet for bass and 45 feet for kokanee. You can find all of the kokes you want by trolling the mouth of the coves.

Calero: While catfish might be slower this week, you can expect to get some good bites from bass and crappie. Use jigs to get some 2-3 pound averages. Expect to find bass in tight areas thanks to grass growing in.

Chabot: Near island and Raccoon Point are the best places to fish this week. Look for some decent catches with the first catfish plant of the season going in at 500 pounds. Expect to find decent sized catfish of 6 – 8 pounds. The hot weather has slowed the trout fishing slightly.

Chesbro: While bass might have slowed down a bit, you can still expect good catfish bites if you go in the evening.

Coyote: This week, you can expect a variety catch with catfish, bass and bluegill all biting good. Expect to find bluegill at the dam and Angler’s Cove. You can also look near the dam for crappie while the bass are in the shallow.

Del Valle: The dam is a great place that you will be able to find both trout and stripers. You will also be able to find stripers at Heron Bay. The east end of the lake has been productive in catch and release bass.

Loch Lomond: Look in shallow sunny coves to be able to find bluegills. This is because the water has risen to 73 degrees, but still a bit chilly. Bass have even snapped a few lines this week.

Los Vaqueros: Anchovies are the best bait this week to catch both stripers and catfish. You will also be able to find both catches at Oak Point and Rock Wall. Catches are very active with catfish ranging from 12 to 23 pounds and stripers ranging from 9 to 14 pounds.

Mcalpine: Trout plant is scheduled for this week, so expect better catches soon. Additionally, you can expect continued good bites from bass, trout and bluegill. Chartreuse Power Bait and worms are great for trout. Topwater poppers are best for bass and Power Bait “nibbles” or red worms are best for bluegill.

Parkway: Get ready for the catfish derby coming up on July 16 – 17 with some great fishing. Averages are about 2 – 3 pounds. Get the best bites at night between 8 and midnight. Look at the peninsula and the sand bar for best bites. Anchovies and night crawlers are the best bite with cut chicken livers bringing in some good catches as well.

Quarry Lakes: Trolling has been the best method for catching trout this week as the action has slowed considerably since last week.

San Luis Reservoir: Expect to catch some good catfish this week with catches ranging from 3 – 10 pounds. Get some nibbles using striper bait. Expect less catches of striped bass this week.

San Pablo Reservoir: With a good plant as recent as June 8, trout fishing is remaining good. You can find a lot of great catches whenever you look between Rock Wall, Sandy Point and Scow Canyon. If fishing for the shore, you can expect to find what you are looking for at the main recreation area. Catfish are taking chicken livers and bass can be found in Graveyard Cove in deeper water.

Uvas: Get some great catfish bites at night. You can also get some decent bites from bass and crappie fishing.

Delta fishing has slowed some this week.

Frank's Tract: Expect to find a lot of decent sized fish with many topping 10 pounds. Morning fishing is productive with topwater lures. Throwing frogs and drop-shotting plastics is working great to get some of the spawning bass and stripers.

Rio Vista: Look near Hastings Cut to get crappie. Clams are the best bait to get catfish. With shakers being the best you can hope for, striper has slowed some.

Saltwater fishing has improved this week with the tides calming down.

Berkeley: Rock Cod and Salmon were hitting good this week while the stripers and halibut have dropped off somewhat. The New Easy Rider saw some great catches right off of Muir Beach and Double Point.

Capitola: Stripers and rock cod as well as halibut have improved this week. You can find rock cod whenever looking at Mile Reef. This is the hot spot for many of the shore anglers this well as you will be able to try your luck to best the 10 pound striper.

Emeryville: While salmon and halibut has slowed down, you will be able to find lings and rock cod as well as striper catching good this week.

Monterey: Rock cod has been hitting good this week while salmon has been slowing slightly. Shakers have been the average catch this week

Pacifica: You will not be able to find perch or stripers this week and action on the beach has been slow.

Pillar Point: Rock cod and lings have been productive this week with the Tiger fish going to the islands.

San Francisco: Oyster Point Pier has been productive for striper catches while the wind has been keeping the boats away from South Bay. Boast get the best action during the day time.
