Lakes and Saltwater

Anderson: This has been a strong location over the last week, especially for those who are looking to pick up bass. Use dropshots and crankbaits if you are trying to get as many bass as possible. Those who have gone to this lake have also found Crappie and Catfish, especially outside the coves.

Berryessa: Fishing is somewhat iffy in this location, simply because the different schools are somewhat scattered in the lake. If you are looking for Salmon or Trout, know that the bite is going to be on and off. Head to the area before dawn if you are looking for the best bite. Head to the coves if you want catfish, and avoid the area completely if you want bass.

Camanche: A strong location for anyone who is looking for trout. If you head into the area with power bait or Nightcrawlers you have a good chance of coming in with limits. You are going t need to get to 30 feet if you want to have a chance at picking up any bass, with bass fishing fairly slow over the last week.

Chabot: This has been a strong location for trout, with people picking up plenty of big fish over the last week. You need to head to Raccoon Point, Half Moon Bay, and Indian cove if you want to see the best bite possible.

Calero: The bass are actually moving to more shallow areas and can be found at less than 10 feet deep. The area is also starting to see some crappie.

Chesbro: Some people are picking up some bass, with most picking up from the decent catfish bite in the area. Use anchovies or sardines for the best catfish bite.

Del Valle: If you are looking for crappie you may start to find it in this location, as many are starting to be caught. The trout bite in the area is somewhat good still, especially around the Dam, the Narrows, and Swallow Bay.

Lake San Antonio: If you are looking for smallmouth bass you are going to be able to find them in this location now, with the bass biting over the last week.

Los Vaqueros: There was a trout plant that went in last week and it has made trout fishing in the area stronger. The striped bass starting biting well afterward, making this a strong overall location for fishing.

McAlpine: If you are looking for trout you are going to need to use worms and lures. A derby over the weekend will see plants of 10 pound trout, so those may pop up after the initial derby itself.

Parkway: This has not been the best location for trout, as the trout are not biting as often in this area. If you use green or yellow power bait you may have some luck. Catfish have been biting Nightcrawlers over the last week.

Quarry Lakes: This has been a somewhat decent spot for trout. The best fishing is coming from Fishermen’s Row and the Peninsula.

San Luis Reservoir: If you are going to try to pick up stripers you are going to want to head to Dinosaur Point. If you want to pick up stripers you are going to need to head to Check 12 and get as deep as possible.

Santa Margarita Lake: Catfish have been picking up somewhat in the area, but this hasn’t been the strongest bite of the week. Bass fishing is halfway decent but has been slow for the week.

UVAS: If you are looking for good catfish and good bass you are going to want to head to this location. Use cutbaits if you are trying to pick up some catfish.

Rivers and Deltas

Antioch: This has been a somewhat strong location for those who are trying to find sturgeon, especially those who are near Grizzly Bay and those by Sherman Island. Few are picking up any striped bass.

Eel: The water in this location is good now, but the biting in the area has not been strong. You are going to want to head to the forks at the end of the river if you want a good bite.

Frank’s Tract: Avoid this location if you can, as fishing has been relatively slow all week.

Gualala: The water in the area is somewhat low, which is making it hard for some to get the fish that they came for. The water is especially low at the upper end of the river.

Mad: There is a low water level that is causing problems for those who have been looking for steelhead. Over 1,000 fish were released back into the river during the last week, so there should be more fish swimming around.

Pittsburg: Those who are heading to the PG&E plant, Honker Bay, and Buoy 33 have been finding some good luck with sturgeon. You are not really going to be able to pick up any decent stripers in this area this week.

Russian: This has been one of the strongest rivers for fishing this week, with a large amount of steelhead coming into the hatchery. Head to this location, as it is going to be one of the strongest weeks of the year for this river.

Smith: The water has been very low and very clear, which is causing a wide variety of problems. Head to the forks if you want a chance at a good bite.

Lakes and Saltwater

Anderson: Those who are looking to grab some great small bass are going to want to head to this particular location. Anderson has bass in fall patterns, making them fairly easy to catch. Head to the north end of the lake if you want to get the best bite, especially near the rocks. Use dart-headed grubs if you want to get as many fish as possible.

Berryessa: Head to the offshore structure if you want the best fishing in the area. Sharp outcropping and creek channels are going to be the best bet, especially for those who are using drop-shots or spoons. Fishing can be somewhat on and off in this location, but has been fairly solid over the least week.

Bon Tempe: If you are looking for a strong bite in the future you are going to want to head to Bon Tempe. The location saw a recent plant of 1,000 pounds of fishing, meaning that there will be plenty of fish for you to pick up over the next few weeks.

Camanche: There is a trout pound at the south shore, a great location for anyone looking to pick up their limits of trout. People have been walking away from the area with limits, and have been doing so in near record time. You are going to want to use night crawlers or power bait if you want to get the best fishing in the area. Bass fishing continue to be strong in this area as well, a does the catfish bite. Use anchovies and sardines if you are trying to find the best catfish in the lake.

Chabot: If you want to have the better fishing in the area you are going to need to get into a boat. Those who have been getting out in boats have been faring better than those who are fishing from the shore. If you are going to attempt to fish on the shore, you are going to want to head to Alder Point and Coots Landings, the hottest fishing spots over the last two weeks.

Calero: It is going to be somewhat difficult to grab bass in the area as they are getting right into the weed mats. If you are going to attempt to hit this area up for fishing, head in the morning and use spinnerbaits and topwater lures.

Chesbro: If you are looking for a strong bluegill catch, you are going to want to head to Chesbro. The location has been strong for both bluegill and catfish. The creek inlet is bring in the best catfish bite in the entire area.

Clear: There has been a strong crappie bite at this particular location, as well as a somewhat strong catfish bite. Those who are using live minnows are going to be catching a few bass as well. You are going to want to get to about 20 feet deep to find the bass in the area.

Coyote: Most of the fishermen in the area are coming away empty handed and disappointed. You cannot go out on the lake, and must only fish from the shore. Bass bites are few and far between for those who are on the shore.

Del Valle: If you are looking for some strong trout fishing in the area you are going to want to head to Del Valle. Head to the narrows if you want the best trout fishing at the lake. Those looking for success in the area will also want to check out the east beach and the south end of the lake.

Lake San Antonio: This has been a prime location for anyone who is looking for a strong catfish bite. Those who are looking for bass are walking away somewhat empty-handed in this area.

Los Vaqueros: Those who are looking for a strong trout bite will want to head to this area, as there will be a plant of 1,200 pounds going in over the early weekend. This is what will be strong in the area, as both stripers and catfish have been reported to be few and far between.

McAlpine: This weekend is going to hold a catfish derby. If you are looking to hit the area up anyway, you are going to find some strong trout bites in the afternoon. Bass are going to anything on the surface, and catfish have been biting well as of late.

Quarry Lakes: There was a small plant of trout that went into the lake over the last week, up to 750 pounds. Head to the peninsula or to the back of the horseshoe if you are looking for a good trout bite.

San Luis Reservoir: There are some large stripers being caught in the area, especially to those who are near the pumps located on the main lake. If you want more success, head to Portuguese Cove.

UVAS: You need to head to the back of the lake, near the dam, if you want to get fish in this area. Bass are biting, especially for those who are using brush hogs.

Deltas

Frank’s Tract: Striped bass are coming in for topwater bites thanks to the incoming tide. While many of the fish are on the smaller side, there is an abundance of them.

Pittsburg: Head to Chain Island and to Collinsville – these are providing the strongest striped bass bite in the area. Reports also indicate that sturgeon fishing is strong in this particular location.

Anderson: If you are looking for some small bass you will find them in this location. There hasn’t been much in this location over the last week.

Berkeley: Most are managing to come off of their trips with near limits on rock cod, with many picking up a decent amount of halibut and stripers. Fishing has slowed a little bit, but not by much.

Berryessa: There is a pretty strong bass bite in this location, with some fishermen picking up over 30 fish every day they go out. Some are seeing bass that are up to 3.5 to 4 pounds.

Camanche: If you are looking for a solid trout bite you are going to want to hit up this location next week. The Lake and the South Shore Pond are going to be splitting a plant of 20,000 pounds.

Capitola: You are going to manage to find some good anchovies around Capitola Marina. You won’t be able to find good sardines, as they are missing from the area. If you are heading to Capitola Wharf, you will find good Kingfish and Perch.

Chabot: The fishing in this location has been hit or miss over the last week. Those who are looking for trout fishing or cat fishing could walk away empty handed. If you are looking to grab some catfish, head near the island. If you are looking for some trout, you are going to want to had to bass cover.

Calero: If you head to this location in the morning for a topwater bite you will be pleasantly surprised. Head to the weed line during the rest of the day if you want to catch much of anything.

Chesbro: This location continues to get worse and worse, slowing down for the season. Avoid Chesbro if you have other options for fishing.

Clear: The catfish bite at Clear has been impressive, as has bass fishing for those who have faux minnow bait. Crappie bite is starting to pick up, becoming more reliable as the days go by.

Coyote: You’re going to be forced to fish from the shore, as boats are not allowed on the lake at this point in the season. The fishing has not been amazing, but is still bringing in some good bites depending on the day and the luck of the person fishing. Head near the rocks in the area, and use creature baits to try and grab a strong bite.

Del Valle: People are starting to hit their limits of trout more frequently at this lake. Head toward the east beach if you want to get the strongest bite in the lake. If you are looking for this location for fishing know that the Marina is open from 6AM to 6PM.

Lake San Antonio: This has been a relatively slow location for this last week or so. If you want to have a decent bite head to the location in the morning: striper and crappie are biting fairly decently in the morning.

Los Vaqueros: Both Catfish and Striper bites have been relatively strong in this location over the last week or two. Head to Peninsula Cove or Oak Point if you want to hit the hot spots. The most success comes to those who use Anchovies for bait.

McAlpine: The catfish has been strong in the area, leading to the “Full Moon Catfish Derby” This week. If you are looking to grab bass in the area, go topwater during the morning. You can use drop-shots later in the day to grab bass. Trout are going to want to go deep, so use Power Bait to get as low as you can.

Pardee: The only bite that is really worth mentioning is the Catfish bite. Trout are not coming in as many expect. The Lake is closing by the 31st.

Quarry Lakes: If you are looking for a decent trout bite, head to this area. The catfish bite is relatively slow, but some are managing to pick up some decent catfish.

San Luis Reservoir: Stripers are being picked up in the main lake to those who start trolling with P-Line lures. Smaller stripers are being picked up in the forebay.

San Pablo Reservoir: If you want to grab some catfish, head to this location before it closes. The bite is fairly decent, but the lake closes on October 31st.

Santa Margarita Lake: The Catfish bite in this location is fairly strong. The Crappie bite at this location is starting to get better. Do not head to this location if you are looking for a good bass bite.

UVAS: The bass bite at this particular location is good, especially to those who managed to get deeper into the water with drop-shots.

Rivers and Deltas

Frank’s Tract: Head to the thick if you want to pick up some good striped bass. Topwater is going to work for you in the morning. Black dog baits have been recognized as the best at this location.

Rio Vista: If you are looking for stripers, you need to get around 25 feet deep at the following locations: Sherman Island, Honker Bay, and Pittsburg. Avoid Montezuma Slough unless the tide is changing.

Anderson: This has been a pretty decent location for anyone looking for strong bass fishing. Be sure to use a drop-shot if you want to get the best bites in the area.

Berkeley: Definitely a strong area for those who are looking for a strong striped bass bite.

Berryessa: Do not head to this location if you are looking for a strong bass bite. The fishing in the area has been slow at best. Head toward the bait balls if you are still going to try to get some fishing in at this location.

Camanche: Those who are heading to this location for trout are hitting their limits relatively easily. You need to get to 35-40 feet if you want to bring in a big haul of trout. The best locations in the area have been the narrows and the spot under the bridge. Bass fishermen are heading to the area in the morning, with plastics bringing in some good results.

Capitola: Definitely a great spot to find Sardines and Anchovies. Rock Cod is starting to slow down.

Chabot: This location is starting to see more of a trout bite. Head toward the Dam, toward Half Moon Bay, or Bass Cove if you are looking to get a strong bite.

Calero: This has been one of the strongest bass fishing locations over the last few weeks. You are going to need to get into the weeds to find the best bass.

Chesbro: Avoid this location for the next few weeks if you are looking for a strong bite. The fishing has been called slow at best in the area.

Coyote: You will only be able to fish from the shore in this area, not from boat. Head to the location in the morning for the best fishing.

Del Valle: Those who are looking for a good striper catch and a good catfish catch will want to hit up this location. The dam and the lower narrow area of the lake is the perfect location for fishing. Do not head to this spot for trout fishing, as the bite is slow.

Loch Lomond: This location is going to be locked down on Sunday, and is locked down for the entire winter season.

Los Vaqueros: If you are looking for a strong striper bite, you are in luck. The area has seen an increase in striper bites. Most are pulling in a few bass that come in at over 10 pounds. These are generally found near the rock wall.

Monterey: Rock-Cod limits are still coming in for those who head out to Camel Bay and Point Sur.

Pardee: While the trout fishing in the area continue to improve, it is still somewhat slow. If you are looking for trout, know that the bite is slow for those as well. You are going to need to get to around 50 feet down to catch any trout. Catfish is relatively strong in the area. Know that this lake is only going to be open until Halloween.

Quarry Lakes: A large plant of trout went into the lake over the last week, to the tune of 1,250 pounds. Strong trout bite expected over the next few weeks. Head to Fishermen’s row if you want to have the best chance at a bite. Catfish are also found in the area – head to Bald Cypress Grove for the best bite in this location.

San Francisco Bay: Anyone that hits the spots between Hunters Point and Brisbane will see a relatively decent bite. Halibut are being round around Alcatraz.

San Luis Reservoir: This spot is somewhat decent for those looking for shad or striped bass. Those who get deep are going to be able to get the best bite and catch.

San Pablo Reservoir: Head to this spot in the mornings if you are looking for a strong bite. Catfish are being found near Scow Canyon, especially by those who are using frozen shrimp and chicken livers. A huge catfish plant went in over the last week – 2,400 pounds of catfish. Should be a strong catfish location for the next few weeks.

UVAS: Head to the location toward the night to get a good catfish bite. Use dark lures. The location has not been kind to crappie fishermen in the last week or two.

Rivers and Deltas

Frank’s Tract: Definitely a great place to get stripers. Head to False River and Big Break for the best fishing.

Klamath: There has been some strong salmon fishing in this particular location. Most head to the upper area of the river, below the Iron Gate.

Rio Vista: Head from Decker Island to Isleton if you want to get a good striped bass bite.

Sacramento: The lower portion of the river has had strong trout fishing. Many are pulling in over 20 fish. Head to the Sundial Bridge and lower to get the best fishing in the area.

Trinity: Salmon are starting to hit the area pretty hard. Head to the Junction City Downstream to get the best fish in the area.

Lakes and Saltwater

Anderson: Anyone looking to get some good bass fishing in should look to 15 feet deep. The best fishing is coming to those using robo worms. Do not head to this location for crappie.

Berkeley: The recent weather has made the area somewhat difficult to fish. Halibut fishing is spotty at best, and Albacore fishing is practically non-existent. Improving weather conditions will make the area more reasonable and fruitful.

Camanche: Those who manage to get around 20 feet deep are going to be able to pull in a decent amount of bass. The rocky points are the best places for fishing in the area. Head to the main lake and the shore pond (south) to get to the catfish in the area.

Calero: Head out on a boat and get as far out as you can to get the best bass fishing in this area. Mornings are best for this kind of fishing.

Capitola: Rock-Cod has been strong for those who are heading to the outside reefs. Sardines are plentiful, as are both browns and vermilions.

Chabot: This has become a somewhat decent area for bass fishing once again. Most people are pulling in fish in the three-pound range. Do not head to this area if you are looking for catfish, as fishing has been slow. The area has seen a recent 500 pound plant of trout, making it a strong trout location.

Coyote: Do not head out to this place for fishing this week, as bass fishing has been incredibly slow at best.

Del Valle: Catfish and stripers are some of the strongest fish in the area, and are constantly bringing in large numbers. Catfish will continue to be strong, as a 750 plant went in the last week.

Emeryville: Salmon season is now over, pushing fishermen to reach for rock cod. There are plenty of boats that come back in with limits of Rock Cod. Those who are looking for either Halibut or Stripers are going to want to move to a new location.

Loch Lomond: This has quickly become a great place for bass fishing. It has also become a great place for bluegill fishing. Head out here before the 10th of October.

Los Vaqueros: Head out to the shores if you are looking for a strong striper catch and strong catfish catch. Those who are looking for strong trout fishing need to head to the area, as a plant is going out in on Friday. Head out to the area with anchovies and shad for the best fishing possible.

McAlpine: Early morning fishermen are going to be able to get the best catches for trout and bass. The evenings are also good for bass fishing at McAlpine.

Monterey: Rock cod fishing is strong in this area, just as it is in many of the other saltwater locations this week. White sea bass has been somewhat decent in the area.

Pacifica: Striped bass are somewhat decent, but overall bass fishing has been difficult in this location this week.

Parkway: This has been a relatively strong location for catfish this week. Head to the south bank or to the peninsula for the best fishing locations. Head to the area before midnight for the best fishing.

Pardee: A huge plant of trout went into the lake over the last week, to the tune of 1000 pounds. Bite is expected to pick up, just like the Kokanee in the area. Head to the upstream to get the best catch of Kokanee. Those looking for a strong bass catch are going to want to head to Shenene Cove and Mel’s Cove – those looking for Catfish will want to go to the south end of the lake, and to the wood pile.

Pillar Point: The weather has been difficult in the area, making fishing equally difficult. Those who have found spots of decent weather are managing to get limits of rock cod.

Quarry Lakes: Those who are ok with two or three pound catfish are going to want to head out to this location. A plant of trout will be going into the lake in the next week, making it a strong future location.

San Luis Reservoir: Those who are looking for a strong bite are going to want to head to different lakes, as fishing is slow at best at this location.

Santa Cruz: Reds, Browns, and Blacks are giving people limits on a regular basis. Halibut are hit or miss in the location.

San Francisco Bay: Perch are somewhat decent in the location, especially around the South Bay piers. Head to the shallow locations if you are looking for some rays and some sharks. Halibut has been somewhat slow over the last week.

Tahoe: Those who are looking to get some strong Kokanee catches are going to want to get to around 80 feet below the surface of the water. Those who are looking for a strong mackinaw bite are going to want to head to this location as well.

UVAS: Head to the area at night for a relatively strong bass bite. Use topwater lures to get the best catch of the night.

Deltas

Frank’s Tract: Black bass are biting somewhat strong in the area, making it a good location. The mornings are perfect for both striped bass and black bass.

Rio Vista: Striped bass fishing is very strong in the area. There are some who are managing to catch 15 pounders at Rio Vista. Those who attempted to get some salmon came away empty handed.
