Summary: This is a single mile loop walk that goes through the park in the lagoon area near Point Richmond in Contra Costa County.

Location: Contra Costa County, as part of the East Bay's Park District Region. The trailhead can be found in the Miller/Knox Shoreline area.

Distance: The length of this hike is one mile long, and it is a loop hike.

Category and Difficulty: This is an easy, single mile loop hike along a perfectly flat paved trail.

Exposure: Along the length of this trail you will find some pockets of shade, however the trail is primarily exposed to the sun.

Traffic: The traffic on this particular trail is moderately light.

Trail Surface: The entire length of this trail is flat pavement, making it an easy walk.

Walk Time: The average walk time for this particular trail is one hour or less.

Season: This trail is particularly nice all throughout the year, though dressing appropriately for the season is important.

Trailhead Coordinates: This trailhead can be found at 37°54'59.89"N Latitude and 122°23'2.94"W Longitude.

Amenities: You will be able to find pay phones, stores, gas and restaurants all approximately 0.6 of a mile in the northwest direction, which is in Point Richmond. Unfortunately, there is no camping allowed at this trailhead.

Rules: All of the trails here are designated as being multi use. Dogs are permitted on the trails here. The hours of operation for the trailhead run from 5 o'clock am until 10 o'clock pm.

Fees: There are no parking fees or entrance fees for this particular trailhead.

Map: A good map for getting to this region is the AAA San Francisco Bay Region map.

Accommodations: There is plenty of parking to speak of here. You will find restrooms that are wheelchair accessible as well as places offering drinking water in several different locations throughout the preserve. There are a number of handicapped designated parking spaces here as well, and wheelchair ramps are provided around the lagoon.

Public Transportation: There is not currently any direct public transportation that travels to this trailhead. The AC Transit Bus no. 73 is capable of dropping you off within a walking distance of the park.

How to Get There: What you are going to want to do is begin on the Interstate 580 from Contra Costa County, taking the #8 exit, which is Canal and Garrard. Drive southbound on Canal, unless you have exited to the west, at which point you should turn left at the ramp base. If you have exited to the east, then you should turn right when you reach the ramp base. Drive on Canal until you reach West Cutting, then turn right. Drive until you reach the first stop sign, then make a left hand turn onto South Garrard. Proceed through this tunnel and then continue onto Dornan Drive for an additional 0.3 miles until you reach the first park entrance, which will be located on the rightmost side of the road.
