I know this is the SFBoater blog, but I grew up in FL. I ran across this YouTube video the other day of a guide in FL catching Goliath Grouper. They are using 400lb test leaders and a sting rays for bait. You can go fishing by going to his website: Fishing Charters With Intensity. Simply Awesome.
In this episode you will see a 500 pound Goliath Grouper landed that looks like a big bass. The Goliath eats a 5 pound Jack Crevalle. This is a 10 minute clip from the Chew On This Saltwater Fishing Show hosted by Captain Ben Chancey.
Last Friday (the only day that wasn't perfect weather for 6 days in either direction) I was interviewing a candidate for a job with my company. The candidate was from the east coast so I thought it would be fun to take them out for a cruise and some fishing on the Bay with one of my business partners...
The Bay was borderline white cap all day. It even rained a little. None the less we persevered.
We started out of Coyote Point. With our first destination being McCovey Cove on the way passing Candlestick... (The candidate liked sports). Here are some pictures in the cove (sorry for the blackout but this is an anonymous blog)...
We then headed to the Berkley Marina for some live anchovies. $30 a 1/2 scoop. They were all dead by our first stop at the end of the old fishing pier. Frozen anchovies from now on as my boat does not have a live well. Live shiners if available.
Anyway we spent a little time in Berkley, but the weather was not pleasant so we headed for Oyster Point.
We caught a nice size Leopard Shark. Here are some pictures.
A friend of mine 1979 28' Uniflite Mega that he has in a slip at the Berkley Marina. He recently related a sad story of a sinking boat in the marina. Thankfully it was not his boat.
He says:
I can't say I didn't get a little choked up when I saw it as this is a reminder to all boaters who keep their vessels in the water to be vigilant about the proper functioning off all bilge pumps, float switches, batteries, battery chargers and shore power connection.
In this blog I will chronicle my boating experience on San Francisco Bay, Sacramento Delta, California lakes, and more. I will include pictures and facility reviews from restaurants to boat ramps to bait shops. Unless otherwise stated, all pictures on this site are taken by be and all rights are reserved.
I have been a boater nearly all my life. However, I recently purchased my first boat -- 2007 Cobalt 220 (more on an upcoming post) with a dual axle trailer.
I bought my boat from Kathy at San Ramon Boat Center at the Lake Tahoe location at Sunnyside. Fantastic! First Rate. I highly recommend them...
I then proceeded to put 35 hours on the boat while in Tahoe.
