What you need to know:

The campsites here are absolutely terrific and this is a great place to spend a weekend. You’ll have plenty of things to do, and the whole family will enjoy the recreation area around the lake. Overall, this was one of the nicest lake marinas we’ve ever seen and we really enjoyed our time here. The service was fast and friendly and everything was very well maintained. We thought the prices were reasonable and found that the docks were in great shape. The launch ramp is one of our all time favorites and overall, we really ended up liking the marina and enjoying the time we spent on the lake.

Lake Piru is a great spot for fishing and has much to offer anyone taking a trip in this area.

What You Need to Know:

Balboa Marina is considered to be one of the nicest facilities in Newport Beach. The amenities and services here are top notch and have much to offer the boater. However, due to its popularity, there is a long waiting list at this time. However, there are a couple of berths that do come available from time to time and the marina does offer guest facilities at times. It is best to call ahead for more information to make sure that they will have an opening for you.

About the Marina:

This marina is located right across from an exclusive community and is very high class. The fees are reasonable given its location and you do get what you pay for. If you are planning a trip to the Newport Harbor Museum, this is the perfect place to stop since it is literally just a few steps away. Overall, it is hard to find a marina this nice and with this many features. Visitors are never disappointed in the service and friendly nature of the staff. We highly recommend this marina if you will be in the area.

You’ll find restrooms and showers here, but no laundry facilities. While there is no onsite restaurant, chandlery or store, there are plenty within easy walking distance from the marina office. Although there are not a lot of amenities, the staff here is incredibly helpful and the marina is very well cared for. They do offer security services, and plenty of other little features that make them well worth the stop. Water and electricity are provided at all docks, at no charge, which is rare indeed.

This is an incredibly nice marina that really goes all out to make you feel at home. They do offer extended stay packages at some terrific rates and overall, they charge less than other nearby marinas. They do offer some dry storage options and there is a bail barge located close by. They do have some special rules and regulations that they ask all users to abide by. We included one of the most important below, but it is best to contact the marina management to find out what they will and will not allow. They have also posted a copy of their rules on their website.

“Discharges from Vessels/Disposal of Liquids. No license holder of the Marina shall throw, discharge or deposit from any vessel, dock or premises any refuse matter, oil, spirits, inflammable liquid, oily bilges in the harbor. All such matter shall be deposited in appropriately-marked containers within the Marina. Orange County Ordinance No. 2073 provides it is unlawful to throw, discharge or deposit from any vessel or float any refuse, oily bilge fluids, inflammable liquids and other contaminants into water or upon the premises. Vessels with automatic bilge pumps will be maintained in such a manner as to prevent the discharge of contaminants overboard. Waste oil disposal tanks, pump out stations and trash receptacles are provided for the convenience of vessel owners.”

This is a popular spot for those who want to watch the Christmas Boat Parade in Newport Beach. You’ll literally have a front row seat to catch all of the action. The marina can accommodate boats from 20 feet up to 83 feet in length and the facilities are very well maintained.

There are currently 42 slips at this location and the waiting periods are very long. It is best to get on the list as soon as possible since they are snapped up quickly when one does become available.

One of the best features about the slips is that they are single loading so it is very easy to maneuver about. The company that manages this marina is also responsible for several others in the immediate area and they have done a great job making sure that boaters will have everything they need right there and that it is very easy to dock and leave the marina.
