Tips for Fishing in the Fall

As the weather begins to cool down, and as the leaves begin to change in hue, you may begin to have daydreams about fishing. The autumn season is the perfect time to start thinking about fishing, as there is no better time for you to be fishing than in the fall. Here are some excellent fall fishing tips that will help you fish more productively and leave the lake or stream with a bigger haul. Instead of focusing on football, do yourself a favor and get in some much needed fishing and you surely will not be disappointed.

In the opinion of many fishermen, the autumn season is one of the best times to be out on the water. There tend to be far fewer anglers, and many more hungry fish. Fish tend to stock up on food in the fall season because they are preparing for the long and cold winter where they will eat significantly less. The scenery in the fall also makes this the ideal season for fishing because there is much more to see and take in than during previous seasons. Immersing yourself in nature is a big part of the fishing process, and fall is the best time to truly take in everything that nature has to offer.

When fishing, use gang hooks. This is actually a tip that is appropriate for all seasons, but that does not make it any less true for the fall season. If you are using live bait, or synthetic worms, then gang hooks are an absolute must. Gang hooks are small hooks that are tied together in tandem, allowing worms to be presented in a natural and outstretched manner which makes a big difference in your bite rate, as well as fish that strike short.

You should also use a "fresh" line. Fresh line is especially important after spending your spring and summer fishing. Change your line frequently, but definitely right before your fall fishing season is beginning. Fresh line, which means a completely new line, is an absolute must because it can make a huge difference in many ways including casting distance, knot tying and preventing breakage of the line.

Whenever possible, you should use the moon and the weather to your advantage. The moon and the weather both have a very large impact on the activity level of fish in an area. Knowing how this works could work to be a great advantage on your part. Within a few minutes of study you can learn enough on this subject that you will see a significant increase in your capabilities as an angler.

Keep fingerless gloves on hand. In many areas, fall fishing can get significantly chilly. Having fingerless gloves on hand can make your fall fishing trips significantly more enjoyable. Theses are excellent pieces of apparel to keep on hand because they keep your hands warmer without costing you any use of your hands.
