Top Ten Things to Do While in San Francisco pt 1

Cable CarsThere is so much to do and see in San Francisco that there is no way for you to do it all in a day. Here are some of the top things that you should absolutely do and see while you are visiting in San Francisco. This list includes the most popular sights to take in and the most popular attractions and activities for tourists. If you plan on going to more than a few of the sights mentioned here, it might be smart to get a San Francisco CityPASS to help you get around.

Waterfront Area

First and foremost you are going to want to visit Pier 39, Fisherman's Wharf and Ghiradelli Square. These areas cover approximately half a dozen blocks along the San Francisco waterfront and they constitute a great deal of the stereotypical image of San Francisco. There are street performers here that entertain as well as souvenir shops and plenty of restaurants that tempt tourists to spend money here. These places are really popular and many of them are the sort of places that you have to visit in order to say that you've seen everything that you need to see in San Francisco. Keep in mind that this is a tourist haven that does not bear much resemblance at all to the rest of what the city of San Francisco has to offer you.

The Golden Gate Bridge is truly an engineering marvel, and many people come to San Francisco specifically to see this spectacular bridge. Not only it is one of the most enjoyable things to see in the city, but it is also one of the most widely photographed sites in the entire world. When visiting San Francisco, you must absolutely walk on the golden gate bridge.

Another site that is worth seeing while you are in the waterfront area in San Francisco is the Alcatraz prison. This may not always have been a place that people wanted to go to, but now it is one of the most popular sights in the entire city of San Francisco. Make sure that you reserve your tickets to see Alcatraz well in advance so that you do not end up unable to go at the last minute due to overbooking.

Around San Francisco

Make sure that you visit Union Square, which is one of the original three parks in the city. Now it is a public space that is found above a multiple level underground garage for parking, and it is ringed with hotels and elegant shops. The San Francisco Powell cable cars begin just a block away from Union Square, and you will also find the theater district nearby as well.

The Cable Cars of San Francisco are often regarded as being the moving landmark of San Francisco.
